Player Care 101: A satisfied player tells other players. But an upset player tells anyone who will listen.

Strong, opinionated arguments are important. You can’t fake them. You know what you know and you know what you don’t know. You have to know what you are talking about if you are going to be opinionated, otherwise you are just an idiot. You know what you know. Players know what they know. Be confident. Trust your experience.

A sure way to build a culture of high performance is to convince everyone involved to adopt a do whatever it takes mindset. The leader must deliver a crisp, simple vision of where we are going and demonstrate the desired behavior. Motivation has perfect attendance. It always shows up after you do.

You cannot win unless you get the “lead bull” running in the right direction. The players have to manage themselves. The coach is only there for when they get stuck. Then they can sit down and discuss. Sharp managers run the locker room by not running the lockerroom. The best kind of pressure is peer pressure. The best player leaders set high standards for their teammates by their: * Competitiveness * Relentlessness * Emphasis of the group over individuals * Encourage their teammates as brothers/family * Hold everyone accountable

Players don’t need to be motivated by coaches. Motivation is internal. They need to not be demotivated.
