Bad club leadership: • Here's your role • Here's your deadline to help us win • Here's your paycheque Great club leadership: • Here's our mission • Here's our ideal outcome • Here's how you fit in our mission • You have permission to tell us when we are not aligned

Player Care 101: A satisfied player tells other players. But an upset player tells anyone who will listen.

Bring….Solutions. If you love systems. Be patient. If you hate systems. Be patient.

If you get far enough ahead of the pack, they can’t organize for or against you.

There will be tension between winning and players who need to develop. Expect this disconnect.

Players want freedom. But they need liberty. Freedom is a broader, more loose concept. Liberty is freedom...Within the structure of community or organization. Discipline is fundamental. Sharp managers foster liberty for their players in a club setup. Liberty > Freedom “True freedom is impossible without a mind made free by discipline.” — Mortimer J. Adler

Every coach looks smart when they’re in a good position in the table. Even the best coach looks like a fool in a bad one.

Strong, opinionated arguments are important. You can’t fake them. You know what you know and you know what you don’t know. You have to know what you are talking about if you are going to be opinionated, otherwise you are just an idiot. You know what you know. Players know what they know. Be confident. Trust your experience.

A sure way to build a culture of high performance is to convince everyone involved to adopt a do whatever it takes mindset. The leader must deliver a crisp, simple vision of where we are going and demonstrate the desired behavior. Motivation has perfect attendance. It always shows up after you do.

“Character is more important than the 1% or 2% difference in talent because what is talent? There are lots of good players. We look at how the locker room works, how they behave if they are not playing." @skysports • Jochen Saier • Sporting CEO • @scfreiburg

You cannot win unless you get the “lead bull” running in the right direction. The players have to manage themselves. The coach is only there for when they get stuck. Then they can sit down and discuss. Sharp managers run the locker room by not running the lockerroom. The best kind of pressure is peer pressure. The best player leaders set high standards for their teammates by their: * Competitiveness * Relentlessness * Emphasis of the group over individuals * Encourage their teammates as brothers/family * Hold everyone accountable

Players don’t need to be motivated by coaches. Motivation is internal. They need to not be demotivated.
