Our new paper is about the most scientifically bewildering state in meditation. If we figure this one out it’s a goldmine for consciousness research, possibly revealing about human hibernation, or useful for space travel. Who knows. Here's the wild story 👇

"Voyage through Time" is my first artpiece using #stablediffusion and I am blown away with the possibilities... We're crossing a threshold where generative AI is no longer just about novel aesthetics, but evolving into an amazing tool to build powerful, human-centered narratives

A hierarchy of alienness: Pictures of animals from least to most related to you. Least-related animal: Sponges. You and sponges are both animals. That's basically all you've got in common.

Kiss from the electron microscope. These are thin slices (30 nm) of the mouse brain cortex. Every neuron is painted with one color. Blood vessels, cell bodies, dendrites, myelinated and unmyelinated axons are visible. #HappyNewYear.

Hey tweeps let's play the game again where ppl list dream genetic-ish tools for neuroscience. Blue-sky level, plz. Sensors, effectors, tracers, probes, sequencing, viruses, promoters, EM, x-ray, cell atlases, anything! Janelia having brainstorm today & seeking crazy ideas

"Representational drift" (bit.ly/3gkzWhx) may be a nice entry point to find interesting invariance structure in neural dynamics, consistent with experiential stability. Applying Topological Data Analysis could be an interesting avenue (stanford.io/2SpXSqN).

Excited to share a new (& possibly contrarian) preprint ! “ An Algorithmic Barrier to Neural Circuit Understanding " biorxiv.org/content/10.110… Suggests that non-existence of tractable circuit-interrogation algorithms could be a roadblock to neural circuit understanding (THREAD)
