this has far more to do with astronomical rent, the overwork required to pay too much for every basic need, and declining arts ed/funding, to say nothing of rigged/decaying studio systems than it does looking at phones. Music is good, the best stuff just isn’t hyped

The precipitous dip in quality of new music, movies and books is because musicians, filmmakers and authors are, like us, always on their phones, and thus no longer forced to creatively contend with the silence and boredom which used to be an inescapable reality of everyday life

I'm deeply saddened to hear the news of Steve Albini’s passing. Steve was a real gift to music and helped both The Wedding Present and Cinerama develop our sound and transform our identity. He was also a genuine person and a complete pleasure to be around.
