@Rflohv2 @nazzobetweeting At this point, with my thread and me replying to OP, this is more of a discussion abt globalization of flavors rather than me targetting the guy. also, you keep saying other countries will start growing ube as if the agricultural conditions of all countries are the same

@unrefinedmess @nazzobetweeting If you want to argue that ube farmers in the Philippines are not benefitting, sure. This is an issue that you need to take up with the Philippines gov. Not shouting a some guy working in a restaurant. Bcos if ube gets popular, other countries will start growing it

the globalization of food and flavors however goes hand in hand with mass production. in which case, the laborers suffer. ideally, yes, yeah cross-cultural exchange is good! but who really gets to experience this globalization? surely not us, from the global south

i actually support the globalization of foods and flavors. i don't care if the white guy running the cafe down the corner is making lattes with pandan cold foam if it means i get to have it regularly now

@Rflohv2 @nazzobetweeting striving for pre-colonial authenticity is a fruitless endeavor when that has minimal ties to the current identity of a country. we're not talking abt the past, we're talking abt now. and yet, for all these distributions of ingredients we all still have recipes that are ours

@unrefinedmess @nazzobetweeting Chili, cassava, maize, coffee, jicama, peanuts. None of these originate from SEAsia. They were all brought to SEAsia by the Europeans. It is 2026 already. Abandon this idiotic Pol Pottist autarky. Everytime this model has been tried, it has resulted in disazted.

@Rflohv2 @nazzobetweeting Of course, they're an example of globalization. But c'mon, when we're talking abt globalization of flavors we're not talking abt commercial food businesses now, are we? We know we won't find the taste we're looking for there. We're talking abt ingredients.

@Rflohv2 @nazzobetweeting Jollibee is a corporation that owns various commercial food business such as Chowking, Greenwich, etc, whose core menu— chicken, burgers, fries, spaghetti—are not really selling local flavors. Even their adobo and palabok are not representative of flavor bc they're commercial

@unrefinedmess @nazzobetweeting The point you barely sentient smear of goo, is you are talking out of your ass. Take Jollibee for eg. That is an eg of globalisation. Your pseudo intellectual whining against globalisation & trade might have worked decades ago. It has been proven wro g

@pearl_milkteas cguro my biggest gripe is that we keep attempting to compete globally and appeal to the foreign market, yet we can't actually support ourselves independently. i will always think abt how during the pandemic, so many suffered because we were reliant on tourism as our income

are we ready to buy it at a price that benefits the laborers? globalization lends the idea that every thing, every resource, can reach us. that's not possible. we and the world are finite. we have to reconcile with the idea that we can't have everything the world offers

will the towns and cities outside of manila, maybe even cebu and baguio experience it? probably not. how far does globalization actually reach in the US beyond major cities? and is it possible that globalization is linked with class? if we want resources from other countries

going “uwu this is for AAPI and Pride” while being condescending to filipinos telling you that the dessert was already vegan shows all of your original post was for brownie points with white allies and not actually for the asian or queer people you apparently did this for
