@Pidge @Samtm023 Not just that, but also the maintenance cost of the underground space is really high (lighting, ventilation, etc.) so a management company needs to charge at least €100 per month per space.

This is 100% true, particularly in cities. A single basement car park costs between €45k-€65k *PER SPACE*. A double basement is €65k-€75k. Apartment buildings in Dublin City have large numbers of parking spaces left empty/unused, massively adding to housing costs.

@MichealLehane Great idea. Based on my own observation, the car parks of the apartments that are in good locations are never more than 1/3 full. The regulation requires 1 space per apartment without even considering whether each resident wants/needs it. Complete waste of money.

Green Leader Eamon Ryan says that one of the ways to reduce the cost of building apartments is not to provide car parking for everyone.
