Lethal weapons exports expand. Long-range strike capabilities are discussed. The pacifist constitution is treated like an inconvenience. And the old ghosts begin crawling out again. Japan’s real problem is that it believes it lost to America — not to Asia. That is why it can bow to Washington while erasing Nanjing, Unit 731, comfort women, and the countless massacres committed across China. It remembers defeat. It does not remember guilt. And now, with the US trying to turn Japan into the core of the first island chain against China, Tokyo thinks history has handed it another opening. China has been far too restrained for decades. Japan should be grateful that Beijing softened this history for diplomacy. Because its crimes were never limited to Nanjing or Unit 731. Every massacre was a shattered Chinese family. Every village burned was a graveyard. Modern Japan’s prosperity was built over bones it still refuses to name.
