@dylanam9779 @PuckReportNHL Yeah I know, he had the all time record for most games played w/o making the playoffs before that tho so he’s kind of the figurehead for that kind of record

Rasmus Ristolainen has been in the NHL for 13 seasons. He’s played 820 games. He’s been in endless trade rumors for as long as you can remember. And now, at age 31, he’s finally going to the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time in his career. #LetsGoFlyers

Random trivia question: since 2013, 147 players have played 700+ NHL games. Which forward ranks dead last in 5v5 goals, expected goals, shots, and shot attempts per 60 minutes in that span?

@kckrebs37 @TopDownHockey Not really, there are a ton of examples of good goalies on terrible teams (like Cooley, Knight, Shesterkin, and Sorokin this year) and bad goaltending on teams with good defenses (Canes basically every year)

#LetsGoFlyers are headed to the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Dan Vladar, who has been great all year and made the final save in the shootout, is one of the big reasons why. Shown below is his goalie card from before this season. You gotta love goalies.

@datadomNY @JFreshHockey He was. As for who he’s giving the crown to I think it’s technically Troy Terry bc the Ducks haven’t clinched yet, but the real answer is Mario Ferraro bc the Ducks have like a 95% chance of making the playoffs

the way that 2004 Bolts team was built was insane. signed St. Louis to a league min. drafted Richards 3rd round bc the scouting staff only had the budget to watch rimouski. drafted Kubina 7th round. traded a 5th for Dan Boyle. underpay in trades for Modin, Stillman, Khabibulin

actually TB notoriously fucked up that 1998-2000 stretch other than Lecavalier in 98 '99: 1st ovr but traded it and got Cloutier, a '00 1st (Nikita Alexeev), and three 3rds '00: 5th ovr, traded for Kevin Weekes, Kristian Kudroc, and a 2nd '01: 3rd ovr Alexander Svitov
SnubbedBedsy98@LandonMcClell15

@JFreshHockey A difference with this stat is the lightning have a professional scouting staff that doesnt consist with a bunch of idiots. Drafting the best person available isnt what KD has ever done for the majority of his top picks.

@JFreshHockey Probably won't happen, but we live in a world where DET could end up having more overall points than the 3rd Metropolitan team and miss the playoffs. This system is just bad from all angles.

@GregBeijer @JFreshHockey @HilsNoglander There are players like Casey Mittelstadt who got worse after leaving the Sabres for the Avs and Granlund who got worse after leaving the Sharks for the Stars. Changing coaches can make a player better/worse regardless of whether the team’s better

@JFreshHockey @HilsNoglander Wouldn’t call it a myth, there are plenty of supporting examples. Drouin resurgence with Colorado, Monahan with Columbus. Could be fit or team structure, but I do imagine there is a fair correlation between players playing better on better teams overall.

@WildcatOil @chrispronger Giveaways aren’t tracked well enough to use for comparison anyway but I agree they’re an overblown problem. Bouchard is just worse defensively in general in a way overall team defense doesn’t fully account for

@chrispronger The past that boggles my mind is that we say Dahlin is stallar defensively (I'm not saying he's not) but then people turn around and say Bouchard is no good and cite his turnovers. When guys like Dahlin and Werenski turn it over a a higher rate...

retiring 99 league-wide is cool because it's crazy that the best player ever wore the highest number possible. if gretzky wore literally any other number it would be stupid x.com/m_schettig/sta…
Michael Schettig@m_schettig

@JFreshHockey I personally think it's silly that 99 is retired league wide. Doing it for 87 and 8 would be absolutely ridiculous

@OleSuperSub @JFreshHockey I think the Dallas Cowboys do that with #88 as well, kinda like that idea. Only thing is it may be hard to tell when a player will be good enough to live up to the number

@JFreshHockey Just retire the name. Keep the numbers. Man Utd has a line of greats who wore 7. The names go up but the numbers live on.

@2003nicko @Godel_number @JFreshHockey @NicolasGen29629 1 April OBJECTIVELY isn’t more important than October, you get the same amount of points for winning in October as you do in April 2 he’s good on the power play, I’m saying McDrai PP is more than enough to account for a 10 point difference from Werenski considering less 5on5 pts

I think there is a very good case to be made that Cale Makar is the best defenceman in the world, but I do not think there is a very good case to be made that he should win the Norris Trophy this season
