Last week, we acquired Gauges and it's been a huge win for everyone. Over the next few weeks, we'll be migrating all of their historical data and routing all Gauges tracking to Fathom. usefathom.com/blog/fathom-ac…

We're so excited to share that we've just launched a new layer of bot defence. You can now see how many bots we've blocked, why we blocked them and where they came from. usefathom.com/changelog/apr2…

We have just introduced a new layer of bot blocking to Fathom and have blocked many millions more bots already (keep in mind that the number is high but this is also across millions of sites).

@kneath @leereilly We do still have the "what they searched on google to get to you" piece. But agree, reading your original image, there's a lot that's gone from the glory days!

@usefathom @leereilly There is nothing that will ever bring back what tweet someone posted your link from, or what keyword they searched google to get to you, or what substack email you were mentioned in. It’s just not a technical possibility anymore.

I'm so bummed about where we ended up with web analytics. We lost all the soul of the old tools. Who's linking to me? Where are people coming from? But we retained and reinforced the existential dread of having corporations ruthlessly spy on us. We used to have a society!

@kneath @leereilly Not an auto response! Agree it's much less common to see it since browsers made changes, I get what you're saying. We do still see many millions of referrer pathnames coming in. We're working on a few bits around your frustration. The world changes and we will always adapt :)

@usefathom @leereilly Y’all — this is a reality of the new internet and you know it. I appreciate the auto response, but things are simply different now. We used to get actual pages people were referred from. That isn’t possible anymore for 99% of requests.

@kneath @leereilly We show referrer pathnames when it comes across! If you have some strong opinions on what's missing, would love to hear, we're roadmap shaping and I'm all ears [jack@]. Cheers Kyle!

@leereilly @usefathom That’s what I use now, but because of browser security / gdpr / etc, it’s just not the same. Notably you can’t get real referrer information anymore. Just weird top level domains that don’t tell you anything.

We're super excited to announce that Fathom V4 is live. We quietly launched it a month ago but didn't want to publish this post until the initial bugs were fixed. We're now in a great place and V4 is officially done. Oh, and more will be coming this month! usefathom.com/blog/announcin…

I get software engineers on the podcast who built something interesting / fascinating / difficult and so there’s lot to learn. Who is someone / from what project/product is someone you’d like to hear from next, and why?

@GergelyOrosz is on a roll in case you missed it very different and therefore interesting conversations

We're building out our 2026 roadmap and need more beta testers. You'd have early access to everything we're building and you'd help us shape Fathom. It's a group of 7 right now and we'd like to grow it to 20-30, so please get in touch if you're interested!

The new phase of current visitors in Fathom has been benchmarked to 2.2 million visitors on a single website. Very fun experience. Oh, and we're shipping another new feature soon, watch this space ❤️
Jack Ellis@JackEllis

We have a new dev interface for testing realtime visitors. 0.634ms for the count and 650ms for 501,000 active website visitors on my cheap MacBook Air. This is epic. A huge step forward. Scalable and low $$ to operate. Quite sophisticated compared to what we did before (upserts).

We’ve just launched an improved data export. Previously, stats were downloaded as multiple separate files. Now, you can design a single export exactly how you want. usefathom.com/changelog/jan2…
