The U.S. Embassy welcomed students studying at the School of Political Science, International Relations, and Public Administration at the National University of Mongolia aspiring to become Mongolia’s future diplomats. Ambassador Buangan and Political Chief Emma Lomax shared their experiences as diplomats and the highlights of the U.S. - Mongolia Strategic Third Neighbor Partnership. We wish them all the best in their future endeavors!

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Head of the Public Diplomacy Division, Ms. Buyanjargal, represented Mongolia at the “Safeguarding Southeast Asia’s Heritage: Strengthening ASEAN-U.S. Cooperation to Combat Cultural Property Trafficking” conference by the U.S. Department of State and the Antiquities Coalition. During her remarks, Ms. Buyanjargal highlighted the successful U.S.-Mongolia collaboration including the repatriation of Gobi Desert dinosaur fossils through partnership with Homeland Security Investigations and acknowledged ongoing challenges from geographic vulnerabilities and transnational criminal networks. She conveyed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' commitment to conclude a Cultural Property Agreement with the United States in 2026, coinciding with the 250th anniversary of the United States.

Ambassador Buangan spent an afternoon touring Choibalsan city with our English Access Scholarship Program (Access) students in Dornod province. The 28 students, who will graduate from the program this year, guided Ambassador Buangan on a city tour, explaining the history and significance of different monuments and locations. The Access program, a U.S. Department of State-funded initiative, provides foundational English language skills to select students aged 13-20, during a two-year, after school program. Since Access began in Mongolia in 2006, over 1,000 youth have participated in the Access program. Currently, there are over 180 students enrolled in the Access program in Mongolia in Selenge, Bayan-Olgii, Ovorkhangai, Dornod provinces and Ulaanbaatar city. This is one of the many ways that the United States is supporting English language learning in Mongolia.

During his official visit to Mongolia's Eastern region, Ambassador Buangan toured the Sukhbaatar province Provincial Court, where he met with the Chief Judge, judges, and administrative staff who successfully completed the Congressional Office for International Leadership's "Open World" program and are now applying its best practices in their daily work. This 10-day professional exchange brings delegates to the U.S. to learn about American governance, judicial systems, and rule of law. In Dornod province, Ambassador Buangan also visited a Child-Friendly Space established in October 2025 through the U.S.-Mongolia Child Protection Compact (CPC) partnership. Inspired by a Mongolian participant’s September 2025 study tour to the United States, this innovative space prevents re-traumatization of child witnesses and victims of crime by providing a calm, safe environment for interviews and ensuring timely support services. It is always deeply gratifying to see tangible results of the CPC throughout the country.

The Civil Military Support Element (CMSE) from the U.S. Embassy in Mongolia recently conducted a two-day training in Murun, Khovsgol. With 150 Mongolian doctors participating, the training focused on enhancing trauma care proficiency and strengthening emergency response capabilities. Our CMSE team also donated high-angle rescue equipment to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in Bayan-Ulgii province. This equipment will improve NEMA’s ability to conduct life-saving rescue and extrication operations. These efforts all increase regional medical capacity throughout Mongolia.

U.S. and Mongolian officials gathered on March 26 for the Fifth Annual Bilateral Dialogue of the United States-Mongolia Child Protection Compact (CPC). The $6.5-million-funded CPC Partnership has improved standards for comprehensive service for victims of child trafficking and coordination between government agencies working to investigate and prosecute trafficking crimes. The CPC reflects the United States’ and Mongolia’s shared democratic values and our common belief that every child deserves dignity and freedom from exploitation.
