Drs. Dobbs, Peterson, Meng, and Haley have been funded by the National Institutes of Health: National Institute on Aging to support their work analyzing the impact of a palliative care education intervention for staff in ALFs caring for people living with dementia.

The School of Aging Studies had an incredible time at The Gerontological Society of America 2024 meeting in Seattle, WA. We shared our latest research with the gerontology community and learned about the exciting new work being done by our colleagues in the field.

PhD student Khunza Asma was selected as a recipient of the GSA Diversity Mentoring and Career Development Technical Assistance Workshop Diversity Fellow Award, provided by the Gerontological Society of America (GSA) with support from the National Institute on Aging.

PhD student Natalia Babenko, MPH, MS, CPH was awarded the Emerging Scholar and Professional Organization Poster Award from the Gerontological Society of America.

A big congratulations to Mitchell Roberts, PhD who graduated this past week! 🎉🤘 Dr. Roberts was hooded by Dr. Debra Dobbs. He also worked with Dr. Victor Molinari until his retirement.

Paula Carder, PhD, visited USF on Friday to present “Doing Qualitative Research in Assisted Living: Ethnography, Shadowing and Walking Interviews” as part of the School of Aging Studies and Florida Policy and Exchange Center on Aging Distinguished Lecture series.

Christina X. Mu, PhD successfully defended her dissertation, “The Joint Effects of Sleep and Pain, and Moderations by Work Characteristics.” We are happy for Dr. Mu as she moves on to the University of California, San Francisco as a T32 Postdoctoral Fellow. 🎉

PhD candidate Cassidy Doyle was recently selected to participate in a competitive three-day research intensive at the University of Michigan’s Michigan Center for Contextual Factors in Alzheimer’s Disease (MCCFAD).

The Caring for the Caregiver to Provide Better Care conference presented by Center for Hospice, Palliative Care and End of Life Studies and the Florida Policy Exchange Center on Aging took place last Friday.

Congratulation to Lindsay Peterson, PhD, Sarah Hackett, PhD, Debra Dobbs, PhD, and William Haley, PhD on their publication “Dementia Caregivers’ Perspectives on Disaster Preparedness: Barriers, Resources, and Recommendations” in the journal The Gerontologist.
