Lots of attention today on how gen AI might reshape jobs. What's flying under the radar is how much the workforce has already been changing. We're seeing the fastest rate of 'occupational churn' in decades - the makeup of jobs is shifting rapidly #CdnEcon #LabourMarket #AI

Is AI already shaking up labor market? A new paper by HKS's @ProfDavidDeming and @LHSummers offers early evidence of artificial intelligence disrupting the workforce ken.sc/4hIP715

Is it possible to have too much of a good thing? For Toronto that ‘thing’ is population growth. In our latest policy blog, @usmanisaad, our Director of Economic Research, writes "we've chosen to throw people at our problems, leaving us caught in a population trap and lower growth prospects." What does this mean for the Toronto region? Read his blog here: bot.com/News/Toronto-s…

"#Gaza is the real-world embodiment of hell on earth for its one million children. And it’s getting worse, day by day, as we see the horrific impact of the daily airstrikes and military operations on Palestinian children." - @1jameselder, @UNICEF

Almost everyone in #Gaza is going hungry according to the latest assessment. This is inhumane. @WHO calls for immediate access for all humanitarian aid, starting with food and medicine for severely malnourished children, who need to be treated urgently. WHO continues to call for a ceasefire. The best medicine is peace.

@mikalskuterud This seems to be in part driven by where they studied - those educated in non-western countries have worse outcomes

Continuing to push the “skill underutilization” narrative does a disservice to our newcomers. When you measure immigrants’ skills properly, there’s no evidence that immigrants’ skills are underutilized in Canadian labour markets. 👉clef.uwaterloo.ca/wp-content/upl…

While penetration has come a long way, only 45% of ON graduates from the class of 2020 participated in WIL. More needs to be done to make the most of WILs, including greater use of emerging models like micro-internships and reimagining traditional models like apprenticeships.

In a study of 13 college-to-jobs programs and policies, WIL programs – internships and apprenticeships in particular – demonstrated the greatest evidence of impact. I was also struck by the limited prevalence of promising programs like co-ops and apprenticeships.
