If a team has already received a bye (VT and Asheville), becomes ineligible (such as changing leagues), or does not wish to enter #USOC2027, then it will go to the next team on the list, not to the second place team in the division. Registration needs to be completed by August 13

Why is that important? Well there are 6 additional bids beyond the champion going to USL-2. They will be given off based on this table. As you can see, @VermontGreenFC already has a bid. So the Top 7 will be invited guaranteed.

The critical @USLLeagueTwo match between @GoBallardFC and @SnoUnited is for more than the Northwest Division title. It also (nearly) serves as a #WinAndYoureIn for #USOC2027. The scenario: Any @GoBallardFC win or 2+ goal @SnoUnited win puts them ahead of @SFCityFC on this table.

A few more regular seasons have finished for @USLLeagueTwo teams, including @LionsbridgeFC dropping a 1-2 home defeat which drops them out of contention for all but the USL-2 champion slot in #USOC2027. Live look at the table. Top 7 are guaranteed to be invited to 1st round.

Now that we have the #USOC2027 tournament proper bye allocation numbers, here's an update on where @USLLeagueTwo stands. After the Champion slit, the remaining 6 byes will be given to the best performing division champions, based solely on regular season performance only.

@usopencup In a situation where it’s a team that is apart of another club like Charlotte Independence 2 does it move to the next team, and is second place in that division inserted into the list.

We do not, and that criteria listed in the press release is truly it. It is 100% in the Open Cup Committee's hands on an annual basis. Opaque for sure, but it used to be just USL-2 and NPSL, so this is still an improvement.

@usopencup Any idea why TLFC got a spot for its champion but not, say, APSL? Also do you have any insight into how they came up with the allocation for those “additional slots” beyond the vague criteria they listed in the press release?

This is decided by the best PPG, then Goal Difference per game, then Goals For per game (not all teams play the same number of regular season games). Here are all 20 division champions or current leaders, sorted by this criteria. The regular season ends on Sunday. #USOC2027
