Why did Avatar Sonam disappear and hide from the other Avatars, even in the Spirit Realm?
I kept receiving this question in dm so here goes 👇
Avatar Sonam hid herself from the Other Avatars, even in the spirit realm because Sonam refused to admit her mistake.
I'll tell you why 👇
When Aang discovered about Sonam's staff, he sought other Avatars of his past life if he could get information from them about Sonam but no avail, until a past earth bending Avatar, told him Sonam is also an Avatar.
Aang was even more confused as to why she's not in the cycle of the past avatars.
Avatar Sonam staff could give airbending ability to anybody! (Just as Tagah gave The Denied airbending abilities).
The staff is that powerful that it can corrupt the user if he loses control over his own anger.
Now let's rewind back a bit, and bring us up to speed...

The Air nation were at war and Tagah was a loyal ally of Avatar Sonam.
With Her staff, she gave Tagah airbending abilities when Tagah saw that almost all the air acolytes (his people) were wiped out, he requested that Sonam staff be used for revenge so they could wipe out other nations who have a hand it that massacre.
Avatar Sonam refused cos she's the avatar who keeps the peace and balance of the world. Hence, she can't push for war, and her staff mustn't be used the wrong way...
Hold on a bit, 5,000yrs later when Aang was born, and 12yrs later he knew he was the Avatar but ran away from home, only to discovered that his entire nation were wiped out, then he went into the avatar state after seeing Monk Gyatso's skeleton???
That's exactly the pain Tagah felt when he saw that his people were being annihilated.
(Put this in mind as we continue)
When Sonam refused giving the staff to Tagah, he fought her and had took possession of the staff.
Tagah gave airbending abilities to the remaining air acolytes then they went to war and truly Tagah caused lots of damages in a bid to avenge his nation.
In that rage, Sonam's staff that was once blue, turned into orange colour, then Blood red colour!!
The staff started corrupting the heart of Tagah to cause more damages.
Avatar Sonam fought against Tagah and took the staff from him, the staff became Blue again.
Then she used her last strength to seal Tagah in a iceberg for 5000yrs. Then she hide herself inside the Lion Turtles that even in the spirit realm, you can't access her except through her staff, this was why she wasn't included in the avatar cycle but when Aang finally found Sonam, she refused to admit her mistake.
She regretted giving Tagah Airbending abilities that resulted into a chaotic war.
She couldn't bring herself to admit her mistake.
When Aang finally broke Sonam's staff and Tagah finally faded, Sonam forgave herself then instantly her spirit come back into the Avatar cycle where the rest of the other Avatars were.
