At UT San Antonio, we're solidifying preeminence as a leader in groundbreaking research with the award of a $44 million, five-year contract from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. This funding expands our innovative Risk Underlying Rural Areas Longitudinal (RURAL) Cohort Study, which leverages advanced mobile health technologies to deliver care and gather data in underserved rural communities across Alabama, Kentucky, Louisiana and Mississippi.
By conducting a second round of in-depth health assessments for 4,000 participants, we'll generate critical insights into the social, biological and environmental factors influencing heart and lung disease.
This work exemplifies how our cutting-edge research translates into tangible improvements in healthcare—advancing prevention, treatment and long-term health outcomes for rural and underserved populations that have too often been overlooked in scientific studies.
