Yalkun Isa, the brother of @Dolkun_Isa, UZDM President and former @UyghurCongress President, is believed to be serving a 20-year sentence on fabricated charges—punished not for a crime, but because of his brother’s peaceful advocacy. Birthdays are meant to be celebrated with family. For the Isa family, it is another painful reminder of absence. We remember Yalkun Isa today—and we demand his immediate release.

The case of Hushtar and Yalkun Isa stands not only for the fate of two brothers. It is emblematic of the suffering of countless Uyghurs and other minorities oppressed by Beijing, as well as persecuted democracy and human rights activists.

Dolkun Isa is a leading advocate for the rights of the #Uyghurs, who are being systematically oppressed by the Chinese state apparatus.
To this day, their relatives have received no official information as to whether they are still alive.

According to unofficial reports, Hushtar Isa was sentenced to life imprisonment and Yalkun Isa to 20 years in prison. And this on the basis of politically motivated and fabricated charges.

On March 24, 2016, Hushtar and Yalkun Isa were arrested and forcibly abducted by the Chinese authorities. It was Hushtar Isa’s birthday and an act of retaliation for the peaceful advocacy of their brother, @Dolkun_Isa.
