Thanks @SilentlakePP for having year round camping! It is a treat to be able to camp during the early winter. No crowds, no bugs and hopefully the bears are enjoying a well deserved nap. Will be back to enjoy the snow soon. Hopefully, more @OntarioParks will expand their season.

Late fall/early winter overnight camping at Silent Lake Provincial Park VE-0389. Had a great shack in the tent. Even had an electrical site for a small heater and a power supply. Almost Glamping for me. VA3KS #parksontheair #hamradio

I guess we need to get out and enjoy the stairs before the stair prisons migrate north for the winter and with winter weather maybe coming we are on borrowed time. Enjoy those stairs and access to our parks while you can. #Ottawa

Cycled over to Hampton Park VE-5958. This is the park I usually test different radio configurations since it is only 2km away. Tried the trusty 857 at 20w, ATU100 tuner, into a Wolf River coil and manpack antenna with a 3 metre extension. No complaints #parksontheair #pota

@AE6Z_ @VE6LK Me too. I went near there again this year but didn’t go back. I make annual trips to Nevada. The BLM land is amazing there. VA3KS/KK7HXY

@va3ks @VE6LK Very similar to my experience. Wish I had a couple more days in the area. There’s a few BLM wilderness areas I didn’t have time to visit.

One of the more unusual parks I have visited, Ward Charcoal Ovens State Park, #POTA K-2639, outside Ely, NV. Got to work @VE6LK on SSB & CW that day!

Carlington Grand Staircase Repairs Location: Edgecliffe/Caldwell to Lepage/McBride. The repairs consist of welding/grinding of the steel components - staircase will need to be temporarily closed. Oct 16, daily closure, 7:30am-4pm for a few days. @CarlingtonHill @CarlingtonCA

The UK station on 10m only gave me a 5x4 signal using my KX2 and AX1 but the Blue Jays gave me a 5x9 for the peanuts #hamradio #qrp #AmateurRadio

@kd3mad @MAGAwatt1 Those protective rails are a good idea. I have them on all my portable rigs.

@va3ks @MAGAwatt1 I absolutely love mine. Still my goto portable rig. Have several newer radios, but FT-857D is reliable and excellent quality. Paired with Digirig it truly is all bands all modes.

Most radios have come and gone over the years in the shack but the 857 has a permanent place on the bench. For fun, going to try it on my next POTA activation at a local park. About 20 years old and screen has been replaced so good for another 20. #hamradio #pota

@GBPackersNo1Fan I usually do POTA activations with a KX2, G90 or FT991A depending on the type of activation.

@va3ks Have you compared this radio on HF to the 891? I have owned 1 857 and 3 891s. I have heard that the DSP on the 891 makes it much better than the 857. I was curious about your thoughts. Thanks and 73.
