@hughosmond @CressidaSmith1 @RubyRedhead4 But in 4 years time it’s likely that car-to grid tech will also be in place, meaning your electric car (which is saving you £100s per month vs petrol) will also act as your house battery overnight.

The average solar panel installation costs around £7,000 (Which Mag) and, to be able to use power at night when you need it, you need a battery for around £5,000. It could "save" you around £660 per year at current prices. (This claim itself is open to question but it's industry standard so I'll leave it) The cost to borrow the money to do this would be around £1,000 per year (8.25%) so you'd lose money for ever. For ever. If you bought it from savings, you'd lose about £600 per year in lost interest so a net surplus of £60 per year, so break even would be well over 100 years. And it basically won't work between November and February in the UK or when it's cloudy for extended periods, so you'll still need 100% grid back up (or a generator burning fossil fuel). Anyone not understand why green grifters like @DaleVince need Government to use laws and taxes to force people to buy this miss-sold technology that is wholly unfit for purpose in the UK? Anyone not understand that attempting to use it to replace fossil fuels for grid-scale generation is not only insane (given UK winter performance) but also entirely uneconomic? @Ed_Miliband Anyone not understand that in addition there is the multi-hundred billion pound cost of changing the grid to accept solar farm power, which is unaffordable? @RachelReevesMP

@ADHDForReal I do wonder whether reshaping our brains to bite sized chunks of ever changing content via scrolling has just basically spandangled our attention spans.

@ThePOTSPostman Catching/succumbing to a bug when away from home (I’ve got a weak immune system and can crash pretty hard/fast), not being able to look after myself (get food, water, painkillers etc) without my husband around, having to rely on strangers when I’m intensely vulnerable.

What’s something you’ve come to fear with your chronic illness? For me it’s fainting or being in a situation where I won’t be able to cool my body down.

I really don't wanna be mean about our national team, but how the fuck is James Graham meant to craft a new inspiring ending to Dear England based on this wretched performance?

@SketchesbyBoze Is the lead illustration from The Goblin Rat? That one scared the living daylights out of me as a child.

We need fairy-tales because they preserve ancient wisdom about how to live in this world. Here are some of the weirdest and best fairy-tales ever written.

@ThanksCancer Never have I ever had my chemo in a day patient setting (mine was all in-patient). I was weirdly jealous of everyone sitting round in one room having their infusions and reading magazines 🙃

@geraniumkate @Dogstarlemon I remember fondly the school journey minibuses in the Highlands of Scotland where kids sat on two long wooden benches facing each other in the back of a Transit van. No seatbelts. When you went round a sharp bend we all slid to one end or fell on the floor.

Okay, people of a certain age, give me your Gen X story. Here's mine: My mom was working but she didn't trust my sister or I with a door key, so every afternoon when we returned from school we had to break into our own house by crawling through the window. 1/2
