A new bill introduced in Congress would create a national rebate program aimed at boosting the use of “cool roofs” across U.S. residential and commercial properties. What’s happening: Three Democratic lawmakers — North Carolina Rep. Valerie Foushee, Missouri Rep. Emanuel Cleaver II, and California Rep. Raul Ruiz — introduced the Cool Roof Rebate Act last month, in an effort to lower home temperatures and reduce energy costs. The bill, which had previously been introduced in both 2024 and 2025 but failed to move forward, would provide rebates to eligible households — determined by “exposure to extreme heat and median income of the residence’s zip code” — that install cool roof products that have been “tested and verified by the Cool Roof Ratings Council,” according to the announcement. It would authorize up to $25 million in household rebates annually across all 50 states through fiscal year 2029. What they’re saying: “I introduced the Cool Roof Rebate Act after hearing from constituents across the district who are already struggling with high utility bills and looking for practical solutions that match the conditions they are living in today,” Congresswoman Foushee told Homepros. I also had the opportunity to present @NCSSM alum @Astro_Christina with my resolution designating May 20th as National Women in Aerospace Day which recognizes the work of trailblazing women throughout history, including Dr. Koch. The barriers Dr. Koch continues to break is an important reminder to women around the world that we too can make lasting change and deserve the opportunity to do so.

I was grateful for the opportunity to greet the Artemis II crew here in Washington. They have inspired a generation, and as Ranking Member of the Space and Aeronautics Subcommittee, I won’t stop defending NASA funding to ensure we can continue pushing our space program forward.

Today, I introduced a War Powers Resolution to end Trump’s illegal and immoral war with Iran that has claimed the lives of American servicemembers and thousands of civilians abroad. With this bill, my goal is to address the STEM workforce shortage that Trump has exacerbated. The @NSF says we are actively facing a “STEM talent crisis” that puts our nation’s future at risk, and it must be addressed urgently. Read more: nsf-gov-resources.nsf.gov/files/nsb-tale…

Seeing some anger on this bill from Republicans. No one is trying to stop Americans from getting advanced STEM degrees! Except for Trump who gutted the Department of Education, worked to prevent the cancellation of loan debt, and is destroying the job market.

Though the legality of these markets remains contested, it's clear that they pose risks to young Americans. Congress needs to have a full understanding of user demographics, internal policies, and safeguards in place by these companies as we work to regulate these platforms.

Prediction markets and sports gambling companies have not taken the proper steps to address the normalization of online gambling for young Americans. I’m leading a letter with @RepPaulTonko to 10 prediction market and sports-betting companies demanding clarity on how much revenue and what percentage of their users are between the ages of 18 and 24.

This is cruel and inhumane. Israel continues to kill innocent civilians with airstrikes in Lebanon, including women, children, and seniors.
