So thankful for Peter, Domenica and the good folks @RealGoodTouring

@vikare06 Truly a mask-off for how they navigate they're own "interests" ....
> They can force themselves to like popslop, because it serves an ULTERIOR MOTIVE!
English

only NPCs believe you can force enjoyment
َ@seacqus

>The Virgin Soft Railroader: "Umm guys, you're REALLY gonna wanna touch this orb here, it's tugging you off..." >The Chad Illusion-of-Free-Will Maxxer: "Touch the orb, or go to a different town; my same quest will find you (with a new face) and you'll think we improvised it"
English

@Asriel_Torrien Fair enough, m'brother
I view it more as a multi-ending escape room, rather than a linear slog.
Deliberate, yes, but many ways to attack it.
And if they want to use a crowbar on the emergency exit, that's their bag
English

@valueselectTV If people are going to ask me to prep a session, they better be ok with getting on the train to some extent

DM advice that so thoroughly ruined an entire generation of D&D that the company is slowly discontinuing their own product. It's taken years for new gamers to shake off their stupor, and they might not fully recover. #dnd
English

@valueselectTV Imagine getting to the next town and the problem at hand is that town needs you to go grab the orb you didn’t pick up from the place u just left
English

@slaughterinchq Let the players roam and discover, and reward them for looking!
Fish for day vs fishing for a lifetime type mentality
English

@valueselectTV yeah i feel like pushing the players in the way he describes is mostly just annoying because they dont get to feel in control of their characters choices as they’re always just waiting for nudges from the DM on the linear story. much prefer to provide the illusion of free will
English

@valueselectTV Or you can just play with normal people who like each other, and who want to engage with the stuff that the GM wrote
English

@Boss_Cthulhu Like any good conversation, it should be free to explore and listen!
And like any good party host, you should find that headway to bring in your planned event and make it feel natura!
But if it never comes up, you've got to improvise!
English

@valueselectTV You can go anywhere you want, all places lead to the quest.
English

@valueselectTV I love this new internet trend of literal who dudes crying about Mercer.
English

@AbdelgabarKarem Of course, that's why Hard Rules are so key!
"I want to jump off that cliff!"
Well yes, you can, but that can only go a few ways!
English

@valueselectTV My favorite method of railroading is the implication of extreme suffering.
Nothing makes players back off from doing something than a "if you wanna do that, sure"
Doesn't even have to have actual consequences planned. Just the thought of it makes them back off
English

@Bookwyrm94 Sounds like a great way to kickstart an Orbs vs Cubes faction war that spans cities!
English

@valueselectTV Dude if we are running "touch the orb campaign" and you decide to run off to fuck with cubes idk what to tell ya
English

@Destiny5619 Or to anticpate the Beach Episode, and set up that quest-line should they choose to pursue!
Options!
English

@valueselectTV The secret to being a good dm is planing a way to impliment the story when your party tries to do a beach episode
English

@SIRWilczek Any leader will tell you, the biggest issue is hiring the right team.
As a DM, you've got to be super dilligent with who you bring on as PC's and how you set the rules for them from the get...
Of course, not everyone has a deep pool of players to pull from, gottta make do.
English

@valueselectTV Its easy to hate the DMs
But are you brave enough to hate the players?
There was an amount of people I've played with over the years that simply refused to engage with the adventure presented. I feel like as a player you should, to some extent, willingly walk into danger
English

@mimouroto EXACTLY!
When we take the guardrails off, everyone has a thrilling time! We need risk!
And death is sad, but it's those Hard Rules that make the game exciting!
English

@valueselectTV Nah, just let them have free will. Their dumb asses will end up fighting a dragon with only two party members and then they'll learn that sometimes the dragon off on the horizon is foreshadowing and NOT A BEACON TO CHASE DOWN.
