4 years ago, when i moved to vancouver, there was barely anything going on
lots of meetups had died out due to covid
i ended up starting @vancouverdev_ myself, which has grown into one of the biggest dev communities in the city
in the past 6 months, i haven’t been able to host many events because i got busy grinding on my startup, but seeing folks like @shawnbuilds, @realsigridjin,@JackyZhong0124, @ashayasharma, @samdotchan, @seykafu, @SanketM321, @0xTemporal, @AnnikaSays and more doing insane stuff is amazing
even one of the oldest php meetups is starting up again
vancouver is so back.

Canada taxes its people at 60% in part to fund a university system to train its best and brightest to flee the country and make the US GDP spike. Who is spiking US GDP at the moment? All the Canadians working for Anthropic and OpenAI in AI. How crazy is that? What do the Canadian tax payers get for their generosity out of this?
