I’m not going to lie… this response from @bomtoon made me really sad. Because they basically confirmed that foreign adult verification will continue to be limited to passports and, exceptionally, driver’s licenses. National IDs, voter IDs, and other official documents will no longer be accepted. And honestly, it feels really unfair. Not because people don’t want to verify themselves, but because so many people DO want to pay, read legally, and support authors… they just don’t have access to those specific documents. In many countries, a national ID is the main and most accessible form of identification. A lot of people do not have passports because they are expensive, difficult to obtain, restricted, or simply unnecessary for daily life. And many people don’t have driver’s licenses either. So this decision ends up excluding legitimate readers who were previously able to access the platform. I understand wanting more security or preventing fraud, but it’s heartbreaking to see a decision like this end up affecting the very people who genuinely want to support creators legally 😞 And yes, it makes me sad because this also impacts authors. Porque básicamente confirmaron que la verificación para extranjeros seguirá siendo solo con pasaporte y, excepcionalmente, licencia de conducir. Ya no aceptarán cédulas, INE u otros documentos nacionales. Y honestamente, me parece muy injusto. No porque la gente no quiera verificarse, sino porque muchísimas personas SÍ quieren pagar, leer legalmente y apoyar a los autores… pero simplemente no tienen acceso a esos documentos. En muchos países, la identificación principal y más accesible es la cédula o documento nacional. Mucha gente no tiene pasaporte porque es costoso, difícil de tramitar, está restringido o simplemente no lo necesita para su vida diaria. Y muchísima gente tampoco tiene licencia de conducir. Entonces esto termina dejando por fuera a lectores legítimos que antes sí podían acceder a la plataforma. Entiendo querer más seguridad o evitar fraudes, pero duele ver que una decisión así termine afectando precisamente a las personas que realmente quieren apoyar legalmente 😞 Y sí, me pone triste porque al final también afecta a los autores. Menos accesibilidad significa menos personas pudiendo comprar y apoyar sus obras.
