Dubai annoys the Western left because of the Abraham Accords with Israel. It frustrates Islamists because it undermines their medieval political vision. It irritates tax-hungry governments because it offers a tax haven. And it provokes envy in parts of the Arab world that once led the region but lost their momentum. Everyone claims the moral high ground. In reality, none of them holds it.

I am starting to realise unless you live here or you’re a citizen of this country, you will never understand the love we have for the UAE. You’ll never understand how happy we are when we board an EK flight to fly back to DXB, or when we fly over and see the skyline. It’s home.

Laugh more. Write a note. Tell someone you love them. Complain less. Give more. Helping others brings more joy than anything you can buy. Be present. Put your phone down. Show up - really show up.
