@vbspurs
I speak in tongues. Six, actually.

@vbspurs I don’t know what happened. You’re wonderful Spursy.

@vbspurs You and I aren't white enough for that moron.

Right! Now Midnight Wordle. Let's hope I can do better than yesterday. 😳

Words cannot express what this continental sojourn had on Queen Mary's personality. She blossomed in the relative obscurity of Florence. She learnt Italian to add to her fluent French and reluctant German. She became a connoisseur of paintings, and antique furniture. Her eye graduated from royal finery to artistic mastery. Her love of literature and "improving books" suddenly took on a bohemian turn. It allowed her to say later that Thomas Mann's "Magic Mountain" was the best modern novel of the 20th century. (I agree) It was an education few Princesses had at the time, and she gulped it up like a drowning woman.

Princess Mary had no takers, since many men didn't want to take on a woman who weighed 250 lbs in her YOUTH (it would rise higher later). So when the penniless Austrian-born, demi-royal Franz von Teck came a-calling, she avidly said JA to his marriage proposal.

@JordanJ22178651 @vbspurs A lot of people are ignorant of history in general. But we do teach this stuff in schools. Also, the last state visit from a British Sovereign did involve a visit to the Derby.
