This is for all my new polish friends that think the r word isn't a big deal, in the US & UK it actually is and they are actively working to take it out of the lexicon (google Rosa's Law for more on this)

I think a lot of ppl use the r word and don't consider it a slur because they don't know the full history of the word Ppl just assume it's because it's a negative word to people with intellectual/educational disabilities so this is a short thread on the usage of the r word (1/6)

The day they finally classify the r word as a slur is the day I will finally know peace

As the r-word starting around the 1960s because it became the medical term for it.
We have, mostly, moved on from these barbaric practices and so the movement to move on from the r slur began as well. It has a horrible history of oppression and torture, just like any other slur

And they shared the exact same fate as these other patients. In fact, forced sterilization was a common practice after they discovered the genetic link in the 1950s because it was seen as a necessity to prevent further "spread".
