This is such a ridiculous conversation; Mark is talking to a room full of people who haven’t read shit, they don’t even know enough to adequately argue the typical capitalism talking points. The reason why most of the people up there think capitalism is a just system is really simple; it’s because they’re all financially well off, it ain’t no more complicated than that. The fact that homeless people exist, and countless war-torn countries exist as a result of their being colonized and plundered for their resources, and then subsequently sabotaged by continuous Western intervention for the sake of resource funneling and decades-long depressed slave wages of the indigenous population, means nothing to them. The fact that the Amazon rainforest is being cut down and our entire global ocean is being polluted with plastics and non-biodegradable toxic waste products, all for the sake of the ruthless drive of corporate greed and corner-cutting, means ditto. Let’s stop the cap and keep it buck, everybody up there (outside of Mark) couldn’t give a fuck less about the deleterious effects of capitalism as long as their bills are paid and the people they worship and admire stay rich. And to further Mark’s point, you can have a much more ethical free-market economic model (meaning a robust private market that allows a degree of wealth to be accumulated in the hands of private owners) without capitalism; there are thousands of possible economic models that can be implemented. Getting rid of capitalism doesn’t automatically mean replacing it with communism and centrally regulated socialism (where the government controls everything and abolishes the private market). Like I said, there are thousands of potential models that can be implemented that erode the deleterious effects of current capitalism while also uplifting millions and billions out of poverty, and at the same time allowing people to get rich through private markets; we just have to think outside the box as a species, instead of being intellectually lazy, dull-minded cynics like most of those folks on the podcast. And side note: I can’t believe that grown-ass man actually fixed his lips to say that thinking of a world outside of capitalism is idealistic; bro, bro, get your ass off the plantation and step into a library, ASAP.
