Tests de toxicité 🐒 Primates : des chiffres insensés pour des résultats douteux Alors que l’UE vient de rendre publics les chiffres 2023 de l’utilisation d’animaux à des fins scientifiques, les images filmées au Royaume-Uni et obtenues par notre partenaire @animalsaustralia révèle une horreur que personne ne veut voir. Parmi les 8 millions d’animaux sacrifiés dans des procédures scientifiques à travers l'UE, 4 392 d’entre eux étaient des primates non-humains. La France affiche à elle seule un total de 2 905 primates en 2024 … Utilisés notamment pour des études toxicologiques, ils sont réduits à une vie de misère, confinés dans des cages de 1m². Les images dévoilées ne laissent aucune place au doute : les procédures qu’ils subissent sont invasives, brutales. Lors des tests de toxicité par inhalation, ils sont maintenus par le cou dans des "chaises pour primates" verticales, un masque étanche plaqué sur leur visage les forçant à respirer des produits chimiques. Pour le gavage oral, un long tube en caoutchouc est enfoncé de force dans leur gorge. La violence de ces actes est concrète. Leur douleur, réelle. Alors que la directive 2010/63/UE demande aux États-membre de réduire l’utilisation des animaux dans la recherche, pour à terme la supprimer, la France, elle, soutient le projet du CNRS d’extension du centre de primatologie de Rousset, pour 30 millions d’euros. Un projet qui suscite de vives contestations tant parmi les Français qu’au sein de la communauté scientifique, comme en atteste la récente tribune publiée par plusieurs scientifiques le 18 avril dernier. Soulignant une « conception dépassée » de l’expérimentation animale, ils pointent le fait que la moitié des projets français ayant nécessité des primates n’aboutissent à aucune publication, et que les conditions de captivité de ces animaux sont pires que celles dans les zoos ou les cirques. Elaborer des cages plus grandes ne servira à rien.
