Americans disagree on a lot. AI regulation isn't one of them. In our latest report deep dive, Tyler Bench and Ben Leff unpack what bipartisan agreement on AI means for candidates, and why we're likely just scratching the surface of what AI regulation will look like. Full video and report linked in comments.

“We see minimal to basically no impact on the whole in switching the author to a computer. That’s pretty disconcerting.” @s_soroka of @UCLA on his student Jun Luo's paper “Beyond Credibility: How News Topic and Cognitive Processing Shape Responses to AI-Authored Journalism.”

Congratulations to @law_fiore, Seoyeon Bae, @LianeLeeYoung, and @SSyropoulos on a new article in @Journal_PoPs, published with Verasight survey data. "Ideological differences in moral concern reflect circle expansion, not inversion" tests a widely repeated claim: that liberals prioritize distant strangers over their own communities. Across three studies, ingroups remain the top priority across the political spectrum; liberals simply reallocate more toward distant categories than conservatives do. The authors' findings challenge claims of moral inversion and clarify that liberal moral universalism reflects circle expansion, not reversal in the ordering of concern.

Congratulations to @namalhotra and Saikun Shi of @StanfordGSB on a new article in @JEPS_ed, published with Verasight survey data. "The Policy Feedback Effects of State Assistance: Did Small Business Bailouts Increase Support for Public Aid Programs?" examines whether exposure to government assistance can generate positive policy feedback effects among constituencies not traditionally supportive of the welfare state. Focusing on the U.S. Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), a small business bailout enacted during the COVID-19 pandemic, the authors study how making government assistance salient affects attitudes toward social assistance programs among a typically Republican-leaning and relatively affluent group. Leveraging a bespoke survey of verified program recipients and an embedded experimental manipulation, the authors found that reminding PPP recipients of program participation increases support for government spending on healthcare, nutritional assistance, and unemployment benefits by an average of 6.9 percentage points.

New in American Politics Research, from Christian Fong (@UMich): even when voter fraud is too rare to change who wins, it still undermines the winner's legitimacy. doi.org/10.1177/153267…
