Elephants often respond to tactile cues (physical signals and touch based communications) In this video, mahouts used both physical and verbal commands to rescue a very tired and stressed out elephant from the flood water. The extra added weight of a human being weighing less than 100kg would not be enough to put the elephants life in jeopardy.
