@chaotic_chord Padmarajan's title track from Nammukku Parkkan Munthiri Thoppukkal (which tbh is in an entire league of its own.)

@masksntales Or you could wet them and put under a newspaper, wait for them to sprout and pop off the cotyledons! No risk, but taste not the same as well I guess?
English

Ofc he was from Kerala.

Have never used a reading app.
I read. I stop reading and switch books if it isn't working for me. I see a tweet and buy a book. I get obsessed by a topic and read up on it (currently 3 theyyam books at home.)
But I don't bother logging any of that. Why would I want to?
maya@bigfatstinky
tbh i don't understand why people jump ship every time a new reading app crawls out the ground like what features could u possibly want that aren't already on storygraph or goodreads or fable

@TrueShoebill @TheGopalan My Amar Chitra Katha tells me that Hayagreeva was a danava who stole the Vedas. Is that not correct?
English

@TheGopalan vArAhI amman (Hs' sapta matRkas are popular in TN). Not sure I ever noticed her vAhanam before.
But for R pic: I init though Panchamukha HanumAn (who further has faces of Garuda & 3 of Hari's animal-rupa avatAras:hayagrIva, nRsimha, varAha). But this has human face. VibhIshaNa?

I keep having the same conversation about well-designed, affordable, early-career dress watches suitable for a DC job. So sharing a few brand and model options that I have sent repeatedly:
1/ Baltic MR01 - beautiful Breguet numerals, fun micro-rotor movement, and nicely textured dial. Hard to go wrong as a dress watch. ~$600
2/ Lorier Zephyr - while no longer produced, options come up frequently on ebay/elsewhere. Lorier is also producing another dress watch (the Roosevelt) which I haven't seen in-hand but looks great. ~$550-800
3/ Vintage (specifically vintage Omega or Longines) - for the price of any of the above options, you can pick up a recently-serviced vintage Omega. Expect to spend another ~$150 on a nicer leather strap from Delugs or Molequin. ~$500-800+
All of these should be 36-38mm max. Less is more here!

@realfrugalmogul @BowTiedBroke Make sure he sees you when you do this. That’s important for mental disintegration.

Found my chainsaw! But Houston, we may have a problem. Found his den as well. I don’t feel my heart racing 100 mph very often, but this would be one of those times.

BowTiedBroke@BowTiedBroke
Well wasn’t this just a great way to wake up this morning. Went looking for my brand new chainsaw that I left on front porch last night. Never gonna find that thing again. This means war!

@TennisonEddie Why not convert this to an str? Or is the str market not so great in Austin?
English

I think the house I've been prepping to sell will go on the MLS today. I have no expectations of a quick sale, but it'd sure be nice. I could start shopping in earnest for my next STR.
We have it priced right, I think. If it gets no interest I'll have to decide whether to leave it on the market or put it back into rental. It will rent, no problem.
I'm not going to slash the price. I'm in no way desperate here, just looking to do a 1031.
English

@photomithra @avataram I think it’s the flat part of the leaf? That’s what I was referring to.

Had a chance to visit a 300 year old house. This gentleman is the current owner. They have recorded history of the house for last 5 generations. The house has survived a major fire in the 1970s. They showed us around the house with so much pride and enthusiasm. Apart from the intrigue around the house itself, they also had priceless treasures like palm leaf scripts and pooja items from the KeLadi king’s time period.

In the pressure cooker the meat would get very tender and fall off the bone. It tasted very much like chopped BBQ beef. The sauce overcame the gamey taste.
I'm not kidding. My father hunted a LOT when I was just a toddler and he knew a lot of people because he ran a popular gas station, and I remember loving it...
I also once had a pet raccoon too, that Dad made me return to the wild when it hit puberty. He climbed the tree and took it out the nest. The mother raccoon probably ended up in the pressure cooker.
English

My mom had her own technique of BBQing raccoon in a pressure cooker. It was really excellent. My father loved to have her serve it at dinner to some guest and tell them what it was after they'd eaten.
He was bit of a practical joker, my dad.

By the way, British pillage of Jhansi was severe and brutal as compared to most of the other cities. Reason? They just received the barren walls and vessels in houses. The Rani left with the treasury and there isn't exactly much to loot. Even the wood used in doors and thresholds are not left.
English

When the Rani of Jhansi realized that the fort is about to fall, there was absolute silence for some time. The outer corridor has already fallen while the Rani was holed up in the inner fort. One fine day, the main gates opened and bust out of it, the Rani in person with an escort of 500 mercenaries and the royal treasury on a state elephant amidst.
