Shout out to @vickiloujohnson for this activity. So many incredible stories have been shared. The best part? Watching students, teachers, and staff lingering at the board, and learning - mostly through images - these diverse immigration stories of our @connectcharter families.

Part of the grade 7 curriculum is learning about how immigration and migration shaped Canada. My students interviewed family members to hear their family’s immigration story. They were then tasked with creating a mosaic tile to tell their story. I love how they turned out!

Finished reading this and am passing it on to teachers in my building. If you want practical strategies, evidence-based thought and process, and confirmation that embracing AI is a good movement - READ THIS.

This whole scene, oh god.
Each one of them, carrying a piece of the Believe sign, like a good luck charm. A talisman. I was crying at this scene oh my god this is EVERYTHING 😭😭

Had the opportunity to co-create and work with @vickiloujohnson on a short unit on persuasive techniques. Students researched and took note of how persuasion is used in a political campaign, and then developed their own. Today they showcased their work!

A quote from one of my students today: “I’m only 12 and I’m worried for our political future.” 👌🏻 #vote #AlbertaElection2023

After we spent weeks learning about figurative language, analyzing many poems with various themes, and annotating their favourite poem, I asked my grade 7 classes to write a poem about a topic of their choice. I was blown away by their poems, so here are a few! @CalgaryAcademy

@vickiloujohnson @LindaMRief @CalgaryAcademy If I was a bit closer to your timeline it would have been great to have our students switch and give each other feedback. I’ll probably be 2-weeks behind you.

I embarked on a flash fiction unit with my 2 grade 7 classes this week. We annotated multiple texts to identify the elements of flash fiction writing. This is what both classes found. I can’t wait for them to start writing their own pieces next week! @LindaMRief @CalgaryAcademy
