Kenya’s Oil Scandal Has a Second Story Nobody’s Talking About Petroleum PS, Kenya Pipeline MD, and EPRA DG arrested, KES 2.9 billion lost on 68 million litres of substandard fuel, officials resigned, cash recovered from homes. But here’s where it gets interesting. Former Deputy President Gachagua went on record claiming the officials were arrested not for corruption — but for bypassing the G2G oil deal and cutting out the president, who he alleges is the “prime beneficiary” of the government-to-government arrangement. He says they tried to import cheaper fuel independently, and that’s what got them in trouble. He also claims the KES 500 million cash recovered from their homes has “inexplicably gone missing.” You’re paying KES 178 per litre of petrol right now. That’s the “protected” price — based on shipments priced before the war. From mid-April, when new import costs hit, pump prices are expected to jump significantly. Meanwhile, your government can’t agree on who’s stealing what. Whether Gachagua is telling the truth or playing politics, the fact remains: somebody ate, and you’re the one paying at the pump. MP Ndindi Nyoro is calling for the 8% VAT on fuel to be scrapped and an additional KES 7 per litre reduction to cushion consumers. The question Kenyans should be asking: if the G2G deal is meant to protect us from global shocks, why is it the epicentre of every fuel scandal?

I hereby GIVE NOTICE that TUESDAY next week, InshaAllah, I will personally file a petition with the Judicial Service Commission of Kenya for the removal of Justice Hellen Wasilwa. Yesterday in a suit filed by Hon. John Harun Mwau she held that Article 246(3) of the constitution is useless, redundant and inoperative and that only the IG of police has the power to recruit police officers. The impunity she exhibits in her judgment and her arrogant and wilful subversion of the constitution can't go unchallenged. She isn't worthy of the office she holds. She must go home.
