@katerpillar56 @CanRevAgency I agree. The problem is that opting out may mean that they are no longer eligible....for that particular year anyways. I would assume that they could opt back in the next year. I wonder if the ability to opt back in later would mean that they were "eligible" on Dec 31.

@videotax @CanRevAgency It does say “if eligible” not “receiving”. My thought is CRA would not like taxpayers opting out of (usually partially employee paid) employer benefits to receive free government benefits.

@CanRevAgency One of the biggest questions I'm getting from accountants: On T4s, if an employee opted out of employer-provided dental coverage, so were not eligible on Dec 31, would they put "1 - not eligible..." in Box 45? Any thoughts? Slips need to be filed imminently.

@sjperryCA @CanRevAgency I agree. Your view is consistent with how I view the intent of the Canada Dental Plan...just need to get CRA's take on it so Canadians and accountants can get these 10s of millions of T4s out! : )

@videotax @CanRevAgency I was under the impression it was if employee was eligible, not whether they chose to opt in or not. And really, devils advocate, why should a taxpayer get free dental when they had the option of having dental benefits?!? Obviously a generalized statement not situation specific.

@CanRevAgency - You may want to consider doing a taxpayer relief Tax Tip in respect of the Alberta wildfires. I was supposed to do the final T1 reviews for one family on April 30, but instead, they had to try to save their animals and house and evacuate.

@CanRevAgency This does not answer the question. I suggest reconsidering and escalating this question as there will be a lot of angry teachers if they don’t get their refunds as expected. They are already dealing with enough. @mireille_cra

@CanRevAgency I see that eligible educator school supply credits will not be processed until Bill C-8 has received Royal Assent. If I file a return including a claim now, will the claim be denied, or will the return be held until Bill C-8 is passed?
