The fundamental demand was the complete withdrawal of all cases against the protesters. Yet, disturbing reports continue to emerge from Assam, West Bengal, and particularly Patna where detentions and incidents of police firing have been reported. Who is directing the police? Is it the Home Minister? If the understanding was to withdraw all cases, it makes little sense for authorities to continue registering FIRs while simultaneously dismissing protesters as so-called 'anti-social elements.' Many of these cases, in fact, have been filed against Muslim students.

The student protests in Delhi's Jantar Mantar have gotten over but there are some who are paying the price for being a "cockroach." Assistant professor Dr Mohit Bhardwaj who teaches Commerce has lost his job for "joining the protest" on 20 July. In videos accessed by The Quint, he was heard chanting in a crowd: "Whenever Modi gets scared, he pushes the police forward, and "Dharmendra Pradhan, give your resignation."  Now, he's demanding answers from his college Ganna Utpadak PG College for firing him after he returned from the protest. Bhardwaj alleges that the chairman of the college society who sent him the termination letter is affiliated to the BJP. We have accessed his photos with a BJP leader and his participation in RSS events. On paper, he has stated the termination is due to many complaints against Bhardwaj, but Bhardwaj told us there have been no complaints from students. The Principal had also given him a character certificate two months ago, thus raising questions over his termination.
