LET THIS SINK IN—the U.S. now has no confirmed CDC director, no FDA commissioner, no Surgeon General, an NIH director with no medical license, and the last Acting CDC Director was a George Bush speechwriter. In fact—the only doctor/scientist we have in the White House is… Dr Oz.

ICE deports mom of 2 little kids on Mother's Day—her baby is still breastfeeding. She was holding her 4 year old son's hand—when 7 agents with guns surrounded them. Her husband now feeds their 1 year old baby daughter—but she rejects store bought formula he's forced to use. Anna Catherine Delgado originally filed a request for political asylum from Venezuela. She verified that she attended all of her regular immigration appointments—and still doesn't know what triggered her sudden arrest. "She called and said they were going to deport her to Venezuela on Sunday—Mother's Day." San Antonio, Texas

🧵 Eight hantavirus cases so far. Three dead. WHO says don't panic because "this isn't another COVID." Fine. But here's what should keep you up at night: the next pandemic IS coming. And Trump isn't just less prepared than last time. He's preparing to weaponize it.

The original sin of the Covid pandemic was not acknowledging airborne spread early, despite SARS1 having been airborne (we learned the hard way in Toronto in 2003). It looks like some are finally realizing this, however belatedly and despite the WHO once again trying to downplay it initially with this 'intimate contact' nonsense. Two cases tested positive yesterday from the cruise ship passengers, and this is despite isolation on the ship itself. The 2019 NEJM study on Hantavirus also suggests that this thing might be airborne. If countries don't employ airborne precautions such as isolation of these cases with use of N95/FFP2 and HEPA filtration in quarantine centers, then we are just inviting this thing to spread. Nip it in the bud now.

The CDC quietly changed its hantavirus protocol on Sunday. High-risk exposures now include being within 2 rows of a known case on a plane. Not sure the science on that, but sometimes decisions are just judgement calls. More analysis soon here 👇 insidemedicine.substack.com/subscribe

Lesson from Covid… by the time you realize that you need mandatory quarantines and mass testing… it’s too late for those measures to be fully effective. Waiting until people become symptomatic to test/ isolate is a bandaid on a hemorrhage.
The Associated Press@AP

BREAKING: One of the 17 American passengers evacuated from a cruise ship in the Canary Islands has tested positive for the hantavirus but is not showing any symptoms, U.S. health officials said. apnews.com/article/hantav…

Fascinating how some people are 100% against public health mandates (an enforced quarantine is by definition a mandate)… until they find out someone with a infectious airborne disease could be potentially coming back to THEIR hometown, or flying on THEIR plane… 🤔

🔥This is very INTERESTING: WHO just did a full 180° on the Andes hantavirus cruise ship outbreak. Yesterday: ➡️ No isolation for passengers/crew — even high-risk contacts — unless symptoms. Today: ➡️ ALL from MV Hondius = high-risk contacts, ➡️ Must isolate 42 days from disembarkation (until 21 June for today’s), ➡️ Daily follow-up, no work, minimal contact, ➡️ Masks: Wear FFP2/N95 respirator for any unavoidable interactions 🤔 From nearly zero to maximum precautions! Very special 180° UPDATE, but a far more understandable one, aligning with precautions many countries already took!🙏 Thanks for the info @_CatintheHat👏

HANTAVIRUS OUTBREAK Following my thread yesterday which criticised aspects of the WHO’s strategy, I’m pleased to see they’ve done a 180° turn in the updated guidance published today: who.int/docs/default-s… EVERYONE from the ship will now be treated as HIGH-RISK contacts… 🧵

Babies were found with dead brain tissue similar to what follows cancer and the kind of bleeding seen after a stroke. Their autopsies all came to the same conclusion: Their deaths could have been prevented with the long-standard vitamin K shot. Read our full investigation: propub.li/4ttL0Lw

So… the CDC says the US doesn’t need to quarantine returning passengers unless they start showing symptoms, but the European equivalent of CDC, which hasn’t been gutted by an anti-vaccine zealot, says people can spread hantavirus before they start showing symptoms.
Caroline Orr Bueno, Ph.D@RVAwonk

(?!!) The European Center for Disease Prevention and Control says people can spread hantavirus to others *before* they start showing symptoms, which directly contradicts everything we’re being told in the US right now.

Reminder: One study showed 96% of commercial flights had Covid on board And long flights ⬆️ transmission 26X There's a good chance that virtually 100% of commercial flights have at least one communicable disease on board Wear an N95 when flying "Gate to gate" at least
Julia Marie@julia_doubleday

Masking on planes is one of the easiest lifestyle changes we could collectively make to halt or slow future pandemics. Vulnerable ppl have to fly for various reasons and have no choice but to be trapped in a tin can w you. You should be home if sick, masked if flying.
