@giangnguyen2412 We are interested in the user perspective; we explain that only features X and Y (of 100s) were used to make the decision, not necessarily which features were used to find X and Y as important. The intuition is that the choice of X and Y can be adapted across students & patients.

@giangnguyen2412 Hi Giang, great question! Yes, the discriminator is a black box to optimize for the accuracy tradeoff, but nothing stops it from being an interpretable model (SVM, tree, attention, NAM etc) if that is important for the use case. 1/2

🌐 Broader impact: Beyond education, iLLuMinaTE could apply to any field where explanations drive actionable decisions. In our actionability simulation, student actions based on iLLuMinaTE explanations led up to a 28.2% improvement in their predicted learning outcomes. 5/
