Happy New Years, everyone! I’m looking forward to 2026 - it’s going to be a huge year for our studio. Can’t wait to say more soon. Until then, trust that we’re making the thing you’ve wanted to play :) Personally, I wake up everyday thinking about this game.

@Speclizer_ Not quite. We loaded up in the multiplayer game which was a separate thing. I think this was setup for other purposes. Regardless, I’m a fan of what you’re doing and it brings back fond memories of what we were making.

The engine likely allows multiple player instances because of this: x.com/i/status/17474…

@SanchoWest Glad you liked the theatre boss battle. Fun fact - @arnaldo42 and I loaded into the level as 2 real players and 1v1’d eachother to decide how Ellie should behave (to feel as much like a real human player as possible). I hand scripted Ellie’s AI to match that experience.

TLOU 2 surprisingly supports multiple player entities by default. This might be better than using NPCs as clients for the multiplayer mod, just need to figure out how the joypad system works. #TheLastofUsPartII

@Genki_JPN When I think about this, it’s actually kinda crazy what they managed to do in basically 1-2 year dev cycles. I’ve always been inspired by this aspect of Japanese game dev of the late 90s. It’s certainly my goal to make games at this pace after having left AAA.

Final Fantasy 7, 8, 9 and 10 released in a span of only about 4 years between 1997 and 2001. Now we are lucky if we can get 1 new mainline FF game in that time. It is true modern game dev cycles are taking too long imo.

Young gamers in Japan may not be forming the same attachment to Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest because modern dev cycles are as long as their childhood, users theorize automaton-media.com/en/news/young-…

@TylerGlaiel Awesome game man, congrats to you and Edmund on the launch. I’ve been playing on PC and Steam deck, though one request: is it possible to add a toggle to force gamepad input off? I’m trying to make a Steam Deck mapping that utilizes KBM which could be much better.

@Kappische I feel like Minecraft, as a shipped game, is practically the counter argument. It’s more or less grey box and is one of the world’s most entertaining games. Also, in my experience multiplayer games can be super fun even in grey box form.

Cowboy Bebop was one of the first anime I watched, and years later while studying animation I realized Yutaka Nakamura had already quietly rewired my brain to value clear mass and rhythmic timing over noisy detail.

Playing @RhythmDrGame, which is fantastic. But man, the one level where you're just playing on a piano while listening to a conversation is genius. I wish more games gave you a chance to listen to characters converse in a natural way while doing your own thing.
