@Nymdok Absolutely. Speaking of, you can rent on Galveston Island for cheaper than a mortgage on an equivalent property, so that’s what I’ll likely do when the time comes. Freaking nuts, something’s gotta give.

@vinniewithanie That IS crazy, but rent is usually our biggest expense. If you find a break, take it! :)

Were going to lose another pub lad. Damn. And yet institutions are greater than any single person.

@Nymdok I hear ya, I miss them too. Kind of nuts that it’s cheaper for me to live in the Keys than Galveston/Houston, but we’re getting a sweetheart deal on rent. I think we have one more year. Child support is up in July so time to save up.

Just 13 miles from Fredericksburg lies Luckenbach, Texas, where “Everybody’s Somebody.” This tiny Hill Country town started as a trading post in 1849 and still charms visitors today. Its oldest building, the iconic general store/post office/saloon, opened in 1886 and still serves cold beer, snacks, and that unbeatable Texas vibe. Mail a postcard with the famous Luckenbach postmark! Fun facts: • Home to early aviation dreamer Jacob Brodbeck, who reportedly flew a clockwork-powered aircraft before the Wright Brothers. • In the 1970s, folklorist Hondo Crouch bought the whole town for $30,000 and turned it into a hub for good times and quirky festivals. • Waylon Jennings & Willie Nelson’s 1977 hit “Luckenbach, Texas (Back to the Basics of Love)” put it on the map forever. Jerry Jeff Walker even recorded Viva Terlingua! here! Live music daily, two-stepping under ancient oaks, and pure outlaw country soul. Perfect day trip to slow down and enjoy the basics. Who’s been to Luckenbach? 🎶🍺🌳

@Nymdok I still have a Chilton’s manual for my 2000 Yamaha outboard. I can’t even tell you where it is. Maybe the garage? That’s another thing I’ve literally done all repairs/maintenance on since the move.

@vinniewithanie Big agree here! There is something really...I dunno...empowering? About seeing it done. It stokes my agency in that "well shit if that guy can do it, so can i!" Kinda way that chiltons/Hayes manual never really did.

@Nymdok Thanks! It’s been so many things too. Radiator in the Mountaineer, alternator in the Honda, etc. YouTube has its flaws, but it’s invaluable when it comes to home auto repair.

Thanks for the explanations and for sharing your reasonings guys. I prefer not to look at it as left vs right but as a bare bone thought experiment. My immediate first thought was "I'd push blue". But then I thought about it. Can I trust other people? By the way the world is looking, the answer is categorically no. In this world, it's basically impossible for so many to push blue. It's not gonna happen. Too much data shows this. Even those who say they would push blue, a big chunk of them would end up pushing red anyways. So red is the right choice. If I push blue and I die, who is gonna take care of my family? At least by pushing red I ensure I can take care of my family. Helping strangers is a wonderful thing. Failing to help your children and family is worse than not helping strangers. I would then hope everyone comes to the same conclusion (including everyone in my family and friends) and we all end up pushing red. For the inevitable blues, sorry bro. Happy to have my mind changed if you disagree and you are good at explaining your position. For those who are gonna use the shaming tactics, push blue and gtfo! But I know you are gonna push red anyways, aren't you?
Metatron@pureMetatron

What't up with this red vs blue button thing? Can you explain it to me? My next post will be my personal choice, after you guys explain it.

@Nymdok Since I moved here from Atascocita (7 years) we estimate I’ve saved us between $5,000-$7,000 in repairs. Her fuel injectors are a great example. Stealership wanted over $2k just for the injectors and another $1.5k of adds. I bought all four on eBay for $100. Took one afternoon.

@vinniewithanie Understand completely! Between me, wife, 2 kids, etc mechanic bills outpaced my earnings quickly, so I got really familiar with AutoZone. :)

@Nymdok My warranty has been me. I worked in a Walmart TLE in college and picked up some fantastic basic mechanical skills. I’ve kept both my 2008 Mountaineer and my wife’s 2016 on the road without paying for any repairs (so far). Both are pushing $190k miles.

I understand that these companies (car shield et al) are providing a kind of "insurance" but, much like home warranties, it sure seems like the money would be better placed in savings for a new car or repairs.

You know, I’ve never met a white supremacist. Never met a member of the Ku Klux Klan. But I’ve seen three attempted presidential assassinations by crazed leftists within less than 24 months.

@Nymdok @PaladinPolecat Dude, I was visiting Galveston about a year ago and one popped up right in the middle of the city in front of us in Kempner Park! I’ve read that the coyotes on the island are mixed with the extinct (in Texas) red wolf and I believe it. It was the biggest coyote I’ve ever seen.

@kellytx2 We visited Big Bend for the first time a year ago. I absolutely loved the drive from San Antonio to the park. We stopped for a night at Kickapoo Cavern state park along the way, absolutely beautiful.

Just wrapped up the drive from Midland to south Texas. You start out in the Permian with nothing but pump jacks nodding like they’re agreeing with your Spotify playlist, oil rigs glowing golden at sunrise, and that endless West Texas sky that makes you feel tiny in the best way. Then somewhere past Sonora the land starts rolling, the mesquite gets thicker, and suddenly you’re chasing Hill Country hills with live oaks that look like they’ve been standing guard since the Alamo. Windows up, AC fighting the 90°+ heat, watching the landscape shift from flat desert drama to green South Texas beauty. Stopped in Junction like a true Texan before making the turn onto I-10E. Waiting on Buc-ee’s to open in the area. There’s something about these drives that resets you. Not traffic (although there always traffic), just big country, good thoughts, and the quiet promise that home is waiting at the end. Anyone love a road trip?

this is an unbelievably misinformed take. Noah is a descendant of Adam, but not everyone on earth is descended of Adam. Genesis 4 tells us that there existed people and civilizations separate from Adam's offspring, which is where Cain went and found his wife. “And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden. And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch.” Genesis 4:16-17 KJV
