apologies: not sure what happed to the video. here’s Cody Gangell-Smith on the response to the Palawa-led Shared Vision Statement released earlier this week #politas
kurt@virtualmusing

Cody took to IG to discuss the response to the Shared Vision Statement #politas he described feeling unheard/unseen & expressed dismay at how many people/institutions he respected responded. some, in his words, systematically erased his voice & that of the other Palawa/Aboriginal people involved in the process

compare this to the response from the @BobBrownFndn, who attributed the plan solely to Kirsha Kaechele & spoke about tourism and hospitality #politas read those next to each other. Palawa leadership proposes protection, whole-of-landscape assessment, and restoration. in turn, the Foundation’s vision for Palawa involvement is tourism and hospitality jobs. one of these is land management & the other is a visitor economy with Aboriginal people as interpreters

‘this is a first step… first and foremost, we protect our old growth forests. secondly, we engage in this whole of landscape assessment—the cultural values, the ecological values—working out where we can protect and restore vital ecologies across these landscapes’ #politas

I should not have doubted Nikita. Last fortnight I received the lowest payment I had received in 24 months, despite my reach remaining the same (about 25-30 million impressions a fortnight). I created a table of my last 64 fortnightly payments and impressions and ran it through Opus, finding my $264 payment was 7.5 standard deviations below years of my own data. I worried it was all over. I waited for this new payout cycle to determine whether this 90% cut was permanent. My payout this morning initially showed as 0.00 dollars so I thought it was finished. I thought I had been completely demonetised. But in the end I got my best payment in nearly 6 months. Across the past two cycles, X ended up paying within 1% of what my model predicted I would receive for the two pay periods based on past payouts and verified engagement stats. So it looks like a pipeline fault that was made whole the next cycle, rather than anything targeted. The past 14 days were stressful as I faced losing up to half my income as a content creator, but I am thankful to Nikita that this issue seems to have been fixed I think the new algorithm with emphasis on mutuals has been great. I love seeing my friends in my For You feed and I've noticed my impressions are up too. Just wish there was a bit more consistency with payouts and a bit more transparency about how it is calculated Love this app, trust the plan

Built a model of my past 24 X pay periods. My last payment was -7.2 SDs below the mean, a cut of almost 90% out of nowhere. I evidently got caught up in the aggregator crackdown, which is completely unfair since I am not running a bot farm from Lagos. I post original content all the time - long form videos, long form essays, political journalism. Maybe Nikita demonetised me for joking that I live in America, which is stupid considering it is the most obvious running comedy gag in the world, I literally have ''BRISBANE AUSTRALIA'' in bold as my location

No Position - No Authority
Thank you for making it unequivocally clear that the @BobBrownFndn's patron only sees Tasmania's first peoples as tour guides and kitchen staff- unworthy of being recognised as land managers and ecologists. #politas

I'm old enough to remember Sacks justifying the Trump administration banning the leading US model for cybersecurity capabilities that were available at the exact same moment in (checks notes) Kimi 2.6.
David Sacks@DavidSacks

This is concerning. For the first time, a Chinese model Kimi K3 has taken #1 on the Frontend Code Arena and is scoring at or near the frontier on other benchmarks. Meanwhile America is tying itself in knots: politicians and bureaucrats are banning new data centers, piling on state regulations, and pushing for new federal agencies to pre-approve frontier models. This is how you lose the AI race. The rest of the world won’t play by our rules if we bog ourselves down. Permissionless innovation is how America won the internet and became the technological envy of the world. We can do it again with AI -- while addressing risks in a targeted way -- or we’ll watch our lead evaporate.

these instances appear emblematic of something pervasive within parts of the environmental movement. some may recall when the @BobBrownFndn copped flack from Nala Mansell and @AliAlishah2 for sinophobia in the MMG campaign i simply note that Ali did not rate a mention in Bob Brown’s recent book, ‘Defiance’

from the cheap seats, it appears that when Palawa-led action suits the position, the institution gets the credit. when a Palawa-led proposal complicates it, it’s an industry ‘stunt’—condemned within hours, congress unattended, the Palawa involved unconsulted #politas
