Last week, our Senior Director of Fundraising in Queens, Doreen DiLeonardo, attended the Queens Chamber of Commerce’s Annual St. Patrick’s Day Luncheon. It was great connecting with community leaders, reconnecting with longtime partners, and introducing VISIONS to new supporters!

On March 7th, our Brooklyn Advisory Board came together for a wonderful Flapjack Breakfast at Applebee's Atlantic Market. The event raised over $2,800 to support VISIONS services in Brooklyn, and introduced VISIONS to many people who were not previously familiar with what we do.

We’re saddened to hear about the closure of the Malibu Diner, a longtime Chelsea staple just steps away from VISIONS at Selis Manor. For years, the diner has partnered with us to offer $1 breakfast vouchers to our Older Adult Center participants. #SeeWhatIsPossible

Braille isn’t a last resort. It’s a powerful option! This week, we're debunking the misconception that Braille is only for people who have no vision. Every day, people who have some usable vision choose to learn to strengthen their literacy and maintain independence. #Braille

Sometimes, the hardest part of vision loss isn’t the change itself, it’s the ideas we carry about it. This month, we’re gently challenging common myths about blindness, one message at a time. Have a misconception you’ve heard (or believed yourself)? Drop it in the comments.

This month, our job seekers took part in Work Readiness Training, building skills in job search, resumes, and interviews. A highlight was a visit to @MTA HQ, where they learned about career paths and inclusive hiring. Thank you, MTA team, for the warm welcome and partnership.

This week, our children and families came together to celebrate Louis Braille’s birthday (better late than never), the VISIONS way! The day included a fun craft activity, a presentation to parents about enriching activities, dancing, lunch, and a delicious cake cutting!

Today, we celebrated World Braille Day the VISIONS way! Breakfast bites, a little Braille history, Jeopardy, and a heartfelt panel on what Braille means in everyday life! Braille is more than dots; it’s independence. We loved spending the morning celebrating with participants!
