One of my favourite Koffi AnNan quotes: To live is to choose. But to choose well, you must know who you are and what you stand for, where you want to go and why you want to get there. Gosh. Words to live by!!! #RIPKoffiAnnan

52 - DR Congo have qualified for the World Cup, ending a 52-year absence from the tournament (since 1974 as Zaire). This equals the longest gap between two appearances for any nation at the 2026 edition, a record shared with Haiti. Historic.

🚨🤯 𝗕𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚: What happened in the 2025 AFCON has NO PRECEDENT in football history… Senegal won the final but months later Morocco are declared as champions: • Senegal played vs. Morocco in the 2025 AFCON final, in January 18 • During the game, Senegal scored a goal, wrongly disallowed • Morocco wins a penalty at 90+8’c and Senegal players refused to play and walked off the pitch for around 15 minutes • Senegal players came back to the pitch and Morocco were awarded the penalty • Brahim Díaz stepped up and attempted a panenka but missed the penalty • Minutes later, Gueye scored the winning goal at 94' • After 2 months, Morocco have been officially announced as the 2025 AFCON CHAMPIONS, with the final result overturned by CAF • Senegal have been declared to have forfeited the match with Morocco declared 3-0 winners by official statement

Morocco 🇲🇦 has pulled out as the host of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), just 60 days before kickoff on March 17. The withdrawal comes amid lingering fallout from the chaotic 2025 men’s AFCON final. Morocco previously staged WAFCON in 2022 and 2024, and was set to host again in 2026, which would have made it the first country to stage the tournament three consecutive times. Following CAF’s intervention, South Africa 🇿🇦 will now take over hosting duties, with the tournament running from March 17 to April 3. The competition will also serve as a qualifier for the 2027 Women’s World Cup.

I’ve just watched Joey Barton dismiss AFCON as a "minor tournament" because of Morocco's finals drama, and honestly, this is a familiar pattern. Africa is judged harshly using incidents that happen everywhere else. Let me ask: Did Copa América 2024 stop being a major tournament because the Argentina vs Colombia final in Miami was delayed 82 minutes after fans without tickets stormed the stadium? Did Brazil vs Argentina (World Cup Qualifier, 2023 at Maracanã) stop mattering because violent clashes delayed the kickoff and Argentina’s players briefly left the pitch? Did Euro 2016 in France stop being a major competition because of violent clashes involving England and Russia fans in Marseille, delaying kickoff? Did England vs Bulgaria (Euro 2020 qualifier, 2019) stop being a real competition after the match was halted twice due to racist abuse? Of course not. So why is Africa treated differently? What Morocco did was wrong, 100%. That issue should be addressed by CAF and judged as Morocco’s responsibility, not Africa’s. AFCON was hosted successfully in the Ivory Coast (2023/24). Other African countries have hosted before, and it worked just fine. The next AFCON is coming to East Africa, and it will speak for itself. Africa doesn’t need permission. Africa doesn’t need to explain its dignity. Those who respect Africa are welcome. Those who don’t will keep watching Africa anyway.
