Rupee Rescue: India Makes SAARC Swap To Keep Maldives Afloat
India has greenlighted a ₹3,000 crore (approx $360mn) currency swap drawdown for Maldives.
The facility replaces an earlier $400mn tranche that just matured.
The mechanism, under which India has extended over $1.1bn to Maldives since 2012, is key to stabilising the Male's finances and reinforcing New Delhi’s Neighbourhood First policy, officials said.
