Paperboy(2018) Ari( My Name Is Nobody)(2025)

Did Kiran Annavaram’s KA lift its core plot from Jayashankarr’s The God Must Be Crazy? So I just finished watching KA, and something instantly clicked in my head… I had seen this before. Not in another big Telugu movie, but in a short film from years ago — The God Must Be Crazy by Jayashankarr (yep, the Paper Boy director). For those who haven’t watched the short: it’s a tightly written slice-of-life story with a unique premise, character arcs, and even that signature bittersweet emotional beat at the climax. When I compared it to KA, here’s what I noticed: Core concept & premise — nearly identical. Main character’s motivation — mirrors the short film almost scene-for-scene. Key emotional turning point — plays out with the same setup/payoff as in the short. Even the visual tone and some dialogue patterns feel way too close to be coincidence. I’m not saying “every scene is copied” — adaptations and inspirations happen in the film industry all the time. But KA markets itself as an “original” blockbuster, while the similarities here are… let’s just say suspiciously specific. Has anyone else spotted this? Or am I the only one with déjà vu? For reference: you can still find The God Must Be Crazy floating around on YouTube. Watch it back-to-back with KA and tell me if I’m tripping. If this turns out to be an uncredited lift, it’s not a great look — especially when we’ve been pushing for originality in Telugu cinema.
