@vkjbennett @PompeyPedro Nah it's definitely not bad just need to give them the pathways to kick on especially Matthews. I think he's got high potential but needs to realise it by staying fit and playing weekly

You’d have to say that the squad building has been at best, optimistic
Looking the “under contract” list there’s a maximum of 6 players who you’d say would maybe start in an aspirationally top half side if (big if) fit:
Adams, Devlin, Murphy, Schmid, Seg, Shaughnessy

@pfc_sam @PompeyPedro I do think worst case Bowat could do a decent job at LB now he’s got sorta match sharp again, but only if we did desperately need cover - swear he moved to LB at some point during the last couple games of the season? Possibly Leicester? Might be wrong though

@vkjbennett @PompeyPedro Didn't look good at LB but was also coming back from year out. Thought he's looked mostly steady and can score/ win headers ! Not something most our CBs can do.
Be interesting what happens with him guess it depends on Mous as he's said he wants game time. Agree re Dia though

@pfc_sam @PompeyPedro Maybe I’m on the wrong end of being too optimistic, but having 3 solid “ish” CBs all younger than 24 can’t be a bad thing if we genuinely manage to build them up. Some of them as loans, some of them around the experience of Poole/Shocks. Long term, but who knows

@pfc_sam @PompeyPedro Actually in fairness I agree on Bowat, was very very unconvinced originally but he really grew on me and is good cover. Dia is raw, but imo Devlin has taken multiple seasons to *really* cement his place and his position - sorta the model in place (although it requires Mous)

@pfc_sam @PompeyPedro Only reason we have so many CBs is we’re constantly in a crisis with them🤣. But I think Dia and Matthews are genuinely ahead of Knight, what we do there I’m not sure. Always possible he comes good but can’t see it atm, other two have a lot of promise imo

@pfc_sam @PompeyPedro I think most of them would’ve got loans if not for injury though. Dia though, tbh, I’m a fan, 3rd choice CB for me (especially useful considering Shocks, as unreal as he is, can’t stay fit for close to a season). Also think Matthews will come good with some game time

Losing Mous at some point was/is inevitable. If it’s now at least it’s in the off-season as opposed to mid-season.
My question is this: Would he leave irrelevant of the Tornante transfer budget?
Was there a way to keep him? Maybe not.
Wish him well if he goes.

@HancockAnalysis 100% he could, same as he could here (if we’re lucky). But, I don’t think they’d give him the same time to achieve that - how often do Champ managers go as many games as we have b4 w/out a win, and keep their job? I reckon that’s the main defining factor as to whether we keep him

@vkjbennett I guess the budget point is relative. Look at the overperformance Mousinho has had here on a bottom three budget, and then think about how he could maximise a middling budget
City were 9 points off playoffs with a solid (albeit thin on quality) squad, could he bridge the gap?

Stick or twist ? Difficult decision for John Mousinho if Bristol City interest is real. Will surely depend on what he hears about the plans at both clubs. But didn’t City sell Mehmeti ? Where was the ambition there ?

@SFA1802 Midfield already needs surgery, imo better off keeping him as a squad option (esp since he has shown glimpses) vs getting like 500k and spending it on another unproven player. Keep him as 3rd/4th choice, think it’ll be ok

I'm torn on Le Roux.
He's performed ok but unless he's actually in the matchday squad, making cameos and starting the odd game I struggle to see the point.
25-man squad limit means some space will need to be opened up.
Better as an 8 rather than a deep-lying 6.

A superb outcome. Mous has yet again performed miracles. I sadly don’t believe he will be here come August. He wants to push on, he wants to be backed. He isn’t going to get it. He will be at Bristol City. It’s time for the Eisners to sell. We need to move forward.
