In San Francisco’s Japantown, at the green tea café Maiko, a Chinese man attacked the shop after mistakenly believing “Maiko” means “prostitute” and feeling it insulted his girlfriend. He assaulted staff and damaged the premises to “avenge” her. Many Chinese men endure constant humiliation growing up, so they often target the weakest-looking people or places to vent frustration, expecting no real consequences. That tactic may work in China, but it fails badly in a civilized society.
