Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a historic success — and for two major reasons. 1. Turn-based games are thriving — and always have been when done right. Just like Baldur’s Gate 3 proved in 2023, #ClairObscur now proves again: It’s never about the pacing — real-time or turn-based — it’s about the underlying mechanics and how you integrate "turn-based time management" into your core gameplay loop. You can have a relatively slow-paced, extremely deep tactical experience like BG3... Or you can have a relatively fast-paced, action-packed but slightly lighter tactical experience like Clair Obscur. Either way, turn-based systems offer something real-time can't: The ability to fully control multiple epic characters at once, allowing for richer, deeper battles and stronger storytelling. That’s exactly why Angelic uses turn-based combat too. We have tons of heroes — and letting players command them with true agency is only possible with turn-based design. And don't forget — in 2023, Baldur’s Gate 3 didn't just succeed... It swept nearly every major Game of the Year award. I strongly believe Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a major contender for 2025 GOTY. So, it's not about size — it's about being SMART. With just 30-40 people, Clair Obscur’s team delivered a stunning, polished, unforgettable game. Meanwhile, many massive studios, with teams of 200, 300, even 500 people — and famous IPs behind them — failed miserably. Bloated, mismanaged, unfocused. This is a crucial lesson not just for traditional gaming — but especially for the so-called Web3 "GameFi" industry. I have been saying for years: 99% of Web3 gaming is a scam. And now, we're seeing it: Projects collapsing, developers disappearing, and many so-called "top" Web3 games showing garbage assets or screenshots anyone can produce in Unreal Engine with a basic tutorial. Hundreds of millions of dollars were poured into these scams — via VCs, token sales, NFT sales, and more. And the result? No real games. No real players. If even a fraction of those resources had been used honestly to build real games, some of these companies could have become billion-dollar franchises. Instead, they chose Lambos... I’m proud that we never gave into that noise. We never sold pointless NFTs. We focused on building a badass game with a fraction of the team size and funding of those "Web3 giants." That's why I have such a soft spot for Clair Obscur’s success. Their journey — their scale, their mentality — mirrors ours. Every game developer from #AAA to #indie, should study their success story. There’s so much to learn. History is full of compact, disciplined, smart armies defeating forces ten times their size. Victory isn’t about numbers — it’s about agility, discipline, and wisdom. And that applies to gaming too. The future of AA and AAA gaming isn’t in bloated teams and bloated budgets. It belongs to smart, agile teams with bold visions and sharp execution.
