This feels like a massive, unauthorized expansion of DHS’s scope of authority. Why are they involved with (what I presume is) an audit of federal funds? They aren’t supposed to be miscellaneous foot soldiers for the executive branch.

The company has shown it doesn’t take our concerns seriously. In our last session, a rep. admitted that he wasn’t familiar with our latest proposal and said we were “monkeying around” by asking for adequate healthcare coverage and better retirement benefits.

4/ The removal of an “aesthetic judgement” clause in our contract. The vague, subjective standard lets management get rid of workers based on “aesthetic differences.” No more firings without clear criteria.

3/ Modern work standards. From remote work options to up-to-date equipment, we’re pushing for a contract that reflects the realities of 21st century journalism.

2/ Adequate parental leave. Our current contract gives full-time employees just *2 weeks* of paid parental leave. In 2025, that’s not just inadequate — it’s unacceptable.

1/ Fair pay that keeps up. Since our last contract in 2021, inflation has surged — yet our pay has only risen 2% a year. We’re demanding wages that reflect the real cost of living.
