UPSC CSE rules have quietly changed. Not the syllabus. Not the exam. The service and attempt rules. Here’s what’s NEW and important: 1.If you are already in IAS or IFS You cannot appear in CSE again unless you resign. 2.If you are already in IPS You may appear again, but IPS is permanently locked. No second IPS chance. 3.If you get a service in CSE 2026 You are allowed only ONE improvement attempt in 2027. 4.That 2027 attempt comes with strict conditions If you get a better service, you must choose one. The other gets cancelled. 5.If you get no service in 2027 You can safely return to your 2026 service. 6.Skip training or misuse exemption Both services get cancelled. 7.After using the 2027 improvement attempt CSE is closed forever unless you resign. UPSC now treats services as commitments, not trials. Know the rules before planning your attempt.
