Hitters Fight your ass off with 2 strikes. Spread out, choke up, take the plate away and refuse to strikeout. It's you vs the man on the mound. Don't let him beat you. It's personal. It's a competition. Remember. The only time it's acceptable to strikeout looking is with a full count on an expanded strike call. Shrink the zone and don't expand in full counts. Expand the zone with 2 strikes until the count goes full. Then shrink the zone.

Some of the best players we've ever had stunk as 13 and 14 year olds. Why? They were undersized and too weak to play on the big field at that age. But. They were junk yard dogs and refused to be outworked, and ended up being great college or professional players. Be careful judging kids too early unless you know their makeup, work ethic, toughness, maturity and how they're being raised.

For those like myself that are seniors at the University of Tennessee they have seen: Basketball: 4 Sweet 16s 2 Elite 8s SEC regular season champs Baseball: National Championship 4 super regionals SEC tournament champs Football: CFP appearance Home wins against UF & Alabama x2 38 wins I’d say it’s a pretty good time to attend THE UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE.

If you coach early youth baseball, and you tell kids: DON'T hit the ball in the air because they're automatic outs DON'T try to hit homeruns. DO hit balls on the ground to 3B because you'll get to 1B more often. You are legit crushing the sport. Getting kids to "want to come back tomorrow" is YOUR ONLY ROLE. My 7 year old doesn't want to go back tomorrow. I don't blame him. You failed.

Breaking News You will not stay in a reputable D1 programs lineup if you can't play defense. Unless you're worth millions of dollars as a hitter. Which you're probably not. The best college coaches in the country refuse to put someone on the field that can't make routine look routine. They value pitching and defense.

Players If high school homecoming, parties, spring break, etc. are higher than baseball on your priority scale. I get it. Have as much fun as possible. But be honest with yourself, coaches and teammates about your competitive athletics goals, which are recreational in nature. Not everyone is chasing greatness. Climbing the athletics ladder requires tremendous sacrifice. You're either chasing greatness or you're not. Don't say you want to play division 1 or professional baseball with fraternity boy habits.

@VOLBOYx You think? Ask him how much money he spent on kids before NIL? What has happen is the things you didn’t see, now you see. People, Fans and other coaches would be just fine if they didn’t know about it.

Public Service Announcement If your son was dismissed from his high school team for missing the teams spring break tournament, to go on vacation (beach trip, etc.). Or Your son isn't getting playing time because he missed the spring break tournament for vacation. Do this. Call the school's athletic director or principal and request a meeting. Tell them it's important. At the meeting, tell them how much you appreciate the coach caring enough about your son to teach him about life, and how much you appreciate him holding your son accountable. Then thank them for hiring a coach that cared about commitment, sacrifice and teaching the kids that being a great teammate comes with responsibilities. Then suggest they give the coach a raise, shake their hands and reiterate how much you appreciate them.
