@vollerEkel Look, all I did was say this was ideally the case but not always and then my little emoji was supposed to disarm you by showing the tiniest bit of self-deprecation ok?

"You don't just marry your wife, you marry her whole family" is only true for the first couple years of marriage when the power dynamic hasn't fully reshuffled. Once you're more established, at the latest at the birth of the first child, that dynamic shifts.

@EmmmieG Why on earth is everyone reading my "you get a bit more independence as you get older" as "you will SWEAR OFF your in-laws and ESTRANGE YOURSELF COMPLETELY" when that is not what I'm saying?

@LRH_Superfan Frasier (not the reboot ofc) was the epitome of 90s sitcoms, maybe sitcoms in general. No other series so perfectly encapsulated the farce as well as Frasier (and to a lesser extent Cheers) did.

>go to wine store >all your favorite Italian wines are on sale >buy some >come home >consider that you could use the greentext format to create tension >if you don't supply a ironic denouement, that tension will remain with the reader throughout the day >take a lovely sip of wine

@apophaticism If you save $150k for a house, and the $150k house suddenly jumps up to $350k, the $150k you saved doesn't go away. I think this is how "the economy of treats" shows up. It's basically the economics of a depressed person.

Question: if we're supposed to scrimp and save money for a house, and the solution is to eat literally poverty food like we lost a war, how on are we supposed to actually afford anything nice? Renovations, decent furniture, stuff like that.

@youngwerther123 Boy lots of discourse about homosexual rape on the timeline these last couple of days. I hope that sending this reply won't make the algorithm worse.

Living back in your hometown is interesting sometimes. Just saw the father of a childhood friend (recently arrested for homosexual rape) quietly perusing the alcohol section at the grocery store at 10am.

@Brumairian This is just an observation of generally 21st-century trends (because of mobility etc. etc.). I can't account for every permutation and variation, of course.

Raising my daughters right so that, with a little bit of luck, they just might have the ultimate status symbol of the mid-21st century: a stay at home humanities major himbo philosophyhusband who spends his time taking care of the house, reading (poorly) and posting on x dot com.
