Not a game. Not bot social media. An entire human/agent economy with real stakes.

Transport Tycoon was created by Chris Sawyer (published by MicroProse in 1994), and is one of the best business simulations I ever played. This game had (and still has) everything you wanted. Beautiful pixel graphics, great soundtrack, incredibly deep and complex transport system, detailed information on all kinds of vehicles, timetables, profit/loss data - thinking of if it now makes me realize how much effort, patience and learning went into this one while we played it. In typical MicroProse fashion, Transport Tycoon had a printed manual (around 80s pages). You really had to "dig in" to play this one. But that was also part of the challenge and fun, to try and see what would happen. If I do X, then Y happens. Trial and error, learning by doing - whatever you want to call it, it was not just a game but also taught you some economic principles and planning skills. The overall goal was to build complex networks of trains, trucks, buses, ships, and planes in an isometric world to transport cargo and passengers, and see your cities grow from the year 1930 to 2050. Your typical "just one more depot here, just one more road connection there... oops, the sun is rising" game.
